Annual Ryegrass (Italian)
lolium multiflorumPerennial Ryegrass
Lolium perenne
Ryegrasses are cool season grasses used in permanent and
temporary sites. Beautiful green color. |
 |
Ryegrasses germinate fast, usually from 5 to 14 days in good weather
and soil conditions and seed / soil contact. Regular watering before and after
planting improves
germination rates. This kind of fast germination and growth makes an ideal niche in the grassing
industry to provide stabilization coverage when used alone or when mixed with other slower
germinating grasses. Annual and perennial are also used to overseed warm season
"dormant" grasses providing green coverage during milder winters within
the transition zone southward.

SEED ONLINE FROM SEEDLAND
SEEDING: Annual Ryegrass LAWNS are seeded at the
rate of 5-10 lbs. per 1000 square feet --- this is a heavily seeded lawn grass
because of the need to assure a more even texture of the upright growing habit of the
ryegrass in a lawn. This
is not true of all grass seeds but in this instance it works better for a lawn of this
type grass to be planted at higher seeding rates.
SEEDING: Annual Ryegrass Forage -Poundage depends upon usage
and land preparation with the average being 15-30 LB/A alone and mixed with other seeds
such as legumes or other small grains sow at the rate of 10-15 LB/A. When sown
directly into the ground plant at the depth of 1-2 in. Broadcasting seeds requires more
pounds per acre because many seeds will not get good ground contact. The higher seeding
rate will result in a thicker, more compact stand.
SEEDING: Perennial Ryegrass Lawns is best sown at approximately 3 1/2 to
5 pounds per 1,000 square feet when grown in a single stand. The grass can germinate
in 5 to 12 days depending upon moisture conditions.
SEEDING: Perennial Ryegrass pasture
seeding rates should be about 30 pounds to the acre for the best results and thickest
possible stand when planted alone The heaviest seeding rate will result in a more compact
sod and heavier forage material and prevent less wear damage from livestock from the
beginning usage. Do not Put livestock on any pasture until the grass is firmly
established. Many pastures are not planned ahead of buying the livestock and never get a
chance to be fully utilized. Perennial can germinate in about 5 t 12 days depending
upon weather conditions. Fertilize on schedule for the optimum feeding in the seedling
stage.
OVERSEEDING
rates for both ryes will be about the same because many of the seed will not get into the
ground since you will be seeding into an established turf or pasture especially over
thick, dense pasturage that has been well managed.
